Strawberry Chia Seed Jam

If you are getting kids ready for school these days, you’re probably packing lunches. Maybe making peanut butter and jelly? If you’re making it for your kids or just yourself, there are healthier options out there and this jam is it! So, throw away that jar of name brand jelly because artificial flavors and added sugar isn’t good for you or your family. Try this simple jam instead and let me know your thoughts!

Strawberry Chia Seed Jam

Strawberries are one of my favorite fruits. I love all berries but really appreciate how strawberries go so well with many different things. One of my favorite ways to enjoy them is after they are cooked. The flavor becomes richer and you can take them so many places, just like in this jam. This jam is the simplest thing I have ever made. It is only three ingredients and takes about ten minutes. I mean does it get any easier? I don’t think so. It’s great by the spoonful but also amazing on toast, with peanut butter or mixed into oatmeal.

Strawberries

Strawberries are high in vitamin C, contain the B vitamins, magnesium and are high in antioxidants. Many studies have shown that eating berries lowers your risk of heart disease, stroke and cancer and the vitamin C in strawberries can help to keep your immune system functioning properly. Two of the antioxidants in strawberries, coumarin and ellagic acid, have been shown to fight cancer. Specifically ellagic acid fights nitrosamines, something found in fried foods, that are known carcinogens. Fried bacon, specifically is high in nitrosamines, so pro tip, eat this strawberry jam with your bacon.

Recipe Notes

When choosing your strawberries, make sure to find them organic. Strawberries are on the dirty dozen list, meaning the conventional versions have lots of pesticide residue on them.

I would love to hear your thoughts on this simple jam, and I hope you and your family enjoy!

Strawberry Chia Seed Jam

This jam is only three ingredients and so easy!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup organic strawberries
  • 1 tablespoon organic chia seeds
  • 1/8 teaspoon organic cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Cut fresh strawberries into quarters (cut in half and then cut each half again)
  2. Place strawberries into a sauce pan and cook over medium heat, until berries are soft, stirring occasionally. This will take about 10 minutes.
  3. Once strawberries are soft use a utensil to mash them as much as possible. There will be juice in the sauce pan, this is ok.
  4. Remove strawberries from heat and stir in chia seeds and cinnamon.
  5. Allow to cool and store in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
  6. Share and enjoy!

Notes

According to the American Academy of Pediatrics it is not recommended to feed babies solid foods before 6 months of age.
