Creamy Papaya Gummies

Gummies are a favorite snack in our house. They are simple to make, nostalgic, and contain lots of nutrients along with helpful digestive properties. I love to use papaya juice because it also aids in digestion but any juice will do. These are also great with organic tart cherry or cranberry juice. This specific recipe is from my pregnancy meal plan and it never hurts to have a little extra digestive support, especially during pregnancy.

Homemade gummies are made from a mix of gelatin and juice. You can also add sugar if you would like and a creamy element. My favorite way to make them is with juice and a splash of coconut cream.

Health Benefits of Gelatin

In this recipe, I use grass-fed bovine beef gelatin. Gelatin is made from cooking collagen and is full of nutrients. There are so many benefits to eating beef gelatin but a few of my favorites are: improved skin health and appearance, improved digestion, and helping to restore muscle. The nutrients found in gelatin, specifically glycine, are crucial for a healthy pregnancy. Your demands for glycine also go up during pregnancy so these gummies are an easy way to increase your intake. Another one of my favorite benefits of gelatin is its ability to aid in digestion and gut health. This is another crucial health benefit for pregnancy because it is common for digestion to slow down during this time.

Papaya Health Benefits

Papaya’s are also great for digestion because of the enzyme papain. Papain can help you to absorb more nutrients from your food along with helping you to digest it easier. Another health benefit of papaya is that it’s high in antioxidants and can be beneficial for fighting inflammation.

Other Ways to Use Beef Gelatin

  • sprinkle it into sauces for easy digestion

  • stir it into apple sauce for additional protein

  • make homemade marshmallows

  • make gummy bears or worms

  • make custards or puddings

Creamy Papaya Gummies

Gummies are the perfect snack, they're yummy, nostalgic and healthy.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 cup organic papaya juice blend
  • 1/4 cup organic coconut cream
  • 2 heaping tablespoons grass-fed beef gelatin
  • Pinch of sea salt

Instructions

  1. In a small sauce pan, over low heat, add juice, coconut cream and salt, stirring to combine.
  2. Next, lightly sprinkle gelatin over top of the liquid and allow to sit for about 30 seconds.
  3. Whisk gelatin into liquid and whisk continuously until all the gelatin has melted. You can test with your finger to see if the liquid is warm and isn't grainy. You want the mixture to be warm but not hot and smooth.
  4. Once the gelatin is melted pour the mixture into a small glass container. Allow to cool for a few minutes then cover with a lid and place in the fridge to set.
  5. Once set, cut into squares and enjoy.
