Beauty Smoothie

Smoothies, like juice, are a great way to add extra nutrients into your diet. You can pack quit a few different fruits and veggies into a smoothie and still retain the fiber. They are an especially good option for an on the go lunch or snack.

This smoothie has been my go-to recently. It’s creamy and easy to share with my son. It includes kale, banana, avocado, and flax seed but my favorite part are the blueberries. Blueberries are very high in antioxidants. Those guys that can help to fight cell damage in our bodies helping to combat aging. In a previous post I discussed antioxidants in more detail, click here if you’d like to learn more about them. Blueberries are also high in fiber and vitamins C and K. Both of these vitamins have been shown to help fight inflammation and to promote wound healing, properties that can lead to beautiful skin. Fighting inflammation can be beneficial for skin conditions like acne and psoriasis. Reducing inflammation can even be beneficial for diseases of the brain like dementia and a 2012 study showed a link between the consumption of blueberries and a decrease in cognitive decline. Not only can they help to keep your skin look beautiful but they can help your brain to stay beautiful and functioning too!

I’d love to hear your thoughts about this smoothie, if you’ve tried it and if you’ve shared it with anyone. Tag me on instagram @nourishedmommaandco
